BASScare has long been aware of the power of a meal. Our journey began with a Christmas dinner for over-60s in the local community, way back in 1956. Since then, we have never wavered in our mission to provide those in need with nutritious and flavoursome food, and our Meals on Wheels program is a huge part of that.

How do I get Meals on Wheels?

Becoming a part of the BASScare Meals on Wheels community is a simple process. If you are over 65, you can get in touch with MyAgedCare on 1800 200 422 or visit www.myagedcare.com.au and they will provide a referral to our Meals on Wheels service. Once we receive your information, we will be in touch with you.

If you have a package with a home care package provider, you can ask them to call us on 03 9880 4703 to discuss our service. You may also phone us directly on this number, or fill out an enquiry form.

Our Service Area

Our community includes all those in the Boroondara area – Canterbury, Surrey Hills, Camberwell Deepdene, Balwyn, Balwyn North, Hawthorn, Hawthorn East, Kew and Kew East.

Ageing in Place

Home holds a special place in our heart. For many of people, it is where we feel most comfortable, physically and emotionally. We often give young people a bit of grief about living with their parents well into their twenties (sometimes longer!), but the truth is that leaving home is difficult no matter what age.

For older Australians, the inability to shop and cook for themselves often spells the end of independent living. The great thing about our Meals on Wheels program is its ability to prolong and continue to enjoy the time spent in our own homes. If tasty and nutritious meals can be delivered to our table, our homes can remain safe, comfortable and appropriate abodes for many years into the future.

The BASScare difference

Menu design

We put a lot of trust in those who look after our loved ones. We want and expect them to be cared for like family. At BASScare, we want you to rest assured that these are the standards we hold ourselves to.

A check-in

Our Meals on Wheels program isn’t your average meal delivery service; it is not a drop-and-run affair. BASScare takes the opportunity with each delivery to check-up on the client and make sure everything is in order. Our volunteers delivering meals report back to our office and our staff follow up with family, case managers and medical services as required depending on the situation. In many cases, our Meals on Wheels clients live alone, so our service is a nutritious meal and an important connection to the community as well as being a welfare check.

Join the community

There are so many ways to get in contact with the Meals on Wheels team that there really is no excuse! So, sign up, join in the taste tests, start designing the menu, and live where you want to live for as long as you can.
