BASScare is a Commonwealth Government approved Residential Aged Care Provider.
At BASScare we understand that moving to a supported residence is a difficult decision. To make the process easier, we’ve compiled a step-by –step guide, outlining where to start, who to speak to and what information is required.
Entry is subject to eligibility based on care needs as determined by the Aged Care Assessment Service (A.C.A.S.). Referral to this service can be made by a local medical practitioner. If you are on our waiting list, please contact us every month to keep us informed of your intention to remain on the list. Forms will be destroyed in a confidential manner if no contact is made.
Prospective residents and their families are most welcome to make an appointment to visit and inspect the facilities at Faversham House. The decision to move into residential care is a significant one so it is important to choose a home that meets each person’s individual needs and preferences. Tours are conducted Monday to Friday between 11:30am and 4:30 pm by appointment only. Book a tour today or to find out more information call or email our Admissions Officer on 03 8809 4901 or admissions@basscare.org.au
There are protections in place to ensure that care is affordable for all residents. The Commonwealth Government recognises that not all residents can contribute to the cost of the care they receive and provide subsidies to assist with these costs.
In general, while care can be subsidised, the government also expects those who can afford it to contribute to the cost. For more information about the cost of care, visit myagedcare.
Basic Daily Fee
All residents are required to pay a basic daily fee. The basic daily fee is currently $60.86 per day and is indexed by the Department of Social Services each March and September. It is the same for singles and members of a couple.
Means Tested Care Fee
The Means Tested fee is a fee payable by some residents. It is calculated by the Commonwealth Government based on both your income and assets.
The fee is capped at the means-tested amount or the cost of your care, or $32,718.57 per annum, whichever is the lesser. The lifetime cap is $78,524.69.
The fee is reviewed each quarter by the Commonwealth, based on income and asset information held by Centrelink or Veteran’s Affairs.
Although this fee is collected by BASScare, it is paid to the Commonwealth.
For your Means Tested fee to be calculated correctly, please complete a Request for Income and Asset Test for Aged Care form, available from Centrelink or our website. It is not compulsory to complete this form, but if you do not, you may be asked to pay the full cost of your care.
You will be advised of the correct Means Tested fee by the Commonwealth shortly after your admission. If we do not have sufficient information at admission to calculate the Means Tested fee, we may charge an estimated fee in the interim.
Accommodation Payments
Residents may be asked to pay an accommodation payment based on their income and/or assets. Residents can choose to make their accommodation payment in one of three ways:
Any Accommodation Payment is due at the date of admission. If you choose to pay the RAD after admission, you will be charged interest on any unpaid amount. The interest rate as of October 1st 2023 is 8.15% per annum. The DAP is calculated using the same interest rate.

A current Aged Care Assessment approval is essential to secure a place in a residential aged care home. Once a prospective resident has completed a facility tour and requested to be added to our current waitlist, they will receive the necessary waitlist application pack to complete and lodge at Faversham House. The Faversham House staff will guide you through this process, which usually involves an appointment to lodge the required documents. If you have been waitlisted, you will receive a letter confirming your placement on our waitlist. We will than contact you when a place becomes available.
Following a formal offer and acceptance of a place at Faversham House, new residents are given a resident agreement, which is a formal contract between the resident and Faversham House. We ask that the resident agreement be signed upon entering Faversham House.
Upon arrival, we ask that all pre-admission forms are completed and returned to us a week prior to admission. This includes having your GP complete a medication chart and delivering it to the pharmacy so they can pack your dose administration aid in time for it to be delivered on your day of admission. In addition, we discuss each new resident’s care needs with them and develop and individual care plan and ensure that this is clearly communicated to all staff. We strive to be sensitive to and support every individual’s religious and cultural needs.
At Faversham House we encourage residents to personalise their room as it is their home. You may bring some small items of furniture and personal affects. The amount of personal belongings and furniture needs to be considered with regard to space and safety issues.
Too much furniture and clutter can pose a falls risk for residents. Ensuring a safe environment and prevention of injuries for residents and staff is important to us.
We also spend time familiarising new residents with their surroundings, introducing them to other residents and the many services and activities available to enable them to settle into their new home as quickly and easily as possible.
