The Canterbury Centre is the hub of BASScare activities and is appointed with many facilities which allow us to provide a host of aged care services, including a daily lunch and Meals-on-Wheels from our state-of-the-art kitchen.
Services available from Canterbury Centre include:
On Wednesdays each month a fun Theme Lunch is held. Previous special lunches have included Christmas in July, Chinese Banquet and Spit Roast’s. These are special days where everyone is invited to share a glass of wine and a playful quiz and good company.
A healthy varied 3 course meal every day, with a choice between two delicious mains.
A range of films, from classic to modern to popular, to documentaries are shown on Wednesday afternoons, followed by afternoon tea. View our monthly calendar or pick one up from the Canterbury Centre. For March/April, while our Technology Spectacular has taken the plum seat on Wednesdays, films will be screened on Thursdays.
A range of day trips to interesting locations around Melbourne collect those who live independently at home on Tuesdays and Fridays, and if you are a bloke, on Mondays! We are always watching out for new ideas and destinations – let us know if there is a place you’d like to visit and we’ll add it to the itinerary. We accommodate various degrees of mobility, and you are welcome to bring a relative or carer if you wish. Bookings are required. View our Calendar of events What’s On March/April or pick one up from the Canterbury Centre.
The Men’s group provides the opportunity for men to get together and enjoy each others company through social outings. Some of the places we have visited include Kyneton RSL, Badger Creek, Mornington Hotel and Launching Place Hotel, Yarra Valley. Let us know if you’d like to join this friendly mob.
A gentle exercise class is conducted by an accredited Vic-Fit instructor. The aim of the class is to increase strength, balance and flexibility. The class can be taken either standing or sitting, and participants are encouraged to go at their own pace.
A 15 week series of Falls Prevention classes is run twice a year. With support from Access Health regular class and home exercises support the study results from Monash University which demonstrate the value of learning to strengthen underused muscles and re-gain balance. Taking part in this program is often a road to long healthy wellness, and a companionable morning tea or lunch after each session.
A hairdresser is available at both the Canterbury and Marwal Centres (see timetable for available days). Our hairdressers are qualified and able to provide a full range of services. Bookings are necessary. Call 03 9880 4709.
