The Canterbury Centre is the hub of BASScare activities and is appointed with many facilities which allow us to provide a host of aged care services, including a daily lunch and Meals-on-Wheels from our state-of-the-art kitchen.

The Canterbury Centre is the hub of BASScare activities and is appointed with many facilities which allow us to provide a host of aged care services, including a daily lunch and Meals-on-Wheels from our state-of-the-art kitchen.


A healthy varied 3 course meal Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, with a choice between two delicious mains. Join us at 2 Rochester Road, Canterbury. Cost $12/$15.  Sunday (traditional roast day $15/$18). Bookings essential 9880 4709.

Weekly Film Afternoon

A range of films, from classic to current and sometimes even a documentary.  Movies are shown on Wednesday afternoons, complete with an ice-cream (as if you were in the cinema). View our monthly calendar or pick one up from the Canterbury Centre.

Trivia and Brain Games

At any stage of our lives, exercising the mind is as important as exercising the body. Fortunately, if done right, it can be immensely entertaining. Join us on Monday afternoons!

Need some assistance with your mobile phone, computer or tablet? Book in to see one of our talented volunteers who can assist with your digital questions and issues.  With only 4 slots available per week, bookings are essential.

Talks and Special Presentations

For lovers of culture, history and all things intriguing. The second Thursday of each month (excluding January) BASScare hosts guest speakers who share their passion and knowledge on a range of topics and interests.

Exercise Programs

We have a range of exercise classes to suit your needs and activity levels from novice gentle chair-based exercises, to energetic strength and balance classes. We even have:
Seniors Yoga – weekly on a Thursday afternoon at 1.30pm
Tai Chi – weekly on a Monday at 10am

Exercise Physiology

BASScare offers one-to-one Exercise Physiology (EP) sessions. Our Exercise Physiologist will work with you to assess your health and exercise goals to create a tailored exercise program specific to you.

Falls Prevention

BASScare’s Falls Prevention program is an exercise and educational program aimed to reducing your risk of a fall. The program includes a pre-course assessment, 14 weekly classes and a post assessment, all conducted by a qualified Exercise Physiologist.

Our hairdresser is available at both the Canterbury and Marwal Centres (see timetable for available days) on Friday’s. Jenny is a qualified hairdresser and is able to provide a range of services from both sites. Bookings are necessary and limited. Call 03 9880 4709.

A podiatrist is available from Canterbury and Marwal centres (alternatively) on Fridays for the care and management of your foot health. Appointments are necessary with limited spaces available. Call to book an appointment on 03 9880 4709

Social Stitches

Enjoy a social cuppa and a chat while you bring your stitch work to join this group of dynamic ladies.

Pottery with Ursula

Thursday 1.30pm-4.30pm
Cost: $15 (teacher led).

Join Ursula, our facilitator with over 20 years’ experience.  Why not try your hand at something new!  Firing is available with the in-house kiln.

Lifelong Learning Group (LLG)

That’s exactly what it’s all about! Enjoy guest speakers and presentations on a wide range of topics. Join our welcoming group of participants, volunteers and staff who meet every Wednesday.

Outings and Day Trips

Want to join us on a day out? BASScare offers a range of day trips to interesting locations around Melbourne, collecting those who live independently at home on Tuesdays and Fridays, and if you are a bloke, fortnightly on Mondays! Due to using comfortable 12 seater bus, spaces are limited.

Boroondara Blokes – Men’s Group

The fortnightly Men’s group provides the opportunity for men to get together and enjoy each other’s company through social outings. Some of the places we have visited include Kyneton RSL, Badger Creek, Mornington Hotel and Launching Place Hotel, Yarra Valley. Let us know if you’d like to join this friendly mob for a great day out.


Transport on the comfortable 12 seater BASScare bus Transport to and from BASScare centre-based activities and lunch (subject to availability) is $10 per return trip. Please phone 9880 4709 to check. BASScare bus pick up areas which include Kew, North Balwyn, Balwyn, Canterbury, Surrey Hills and Camberwell. Booking two days prior is essential.
