At an extraordinary meeting held on 28 March 2024, the Members of Samarinda Ashburton Aged Services Inc. overwhelmingly supported the resolution put forth to merge with BASScare.

This decision benefits both organisations as the aged care and disability sectors continue to go through a period of significant change and uncertainty.

Samarinda Chair, Mr Bob Stensholt welcomed the decision of the members and said
“This merger of Samarinda with BASScare will ensure the continuation of quality services to our community. The iconic Samarinda service to our community will continue to be enhanced with locals continuing to be there for locals”. He added “The new merged organisation will be able to offer so much more to our stakeholders – clients, residents, their families, staff and volunteers”.

Pam Davey Chair of BASScare who was also present at the meeting, said that
“The time is right for BASScare and Samarinda to move forward as one. This change provides immense benefits to our communities: clients, residents, their families, staff and volunteers. As one, we will be able to provide a broader range of services whilst maintaining our high standards of care. Further this ensures the longevity of the organisations and provides the ability to navigate the changing regulatory landscape”.

Now that both organisations have agreed to the merger, work will now commence on moving Samarinda’s business into BASScare’s legal structure. It is envisaged that majority of services and programs will be moved across on 1 May 2024.
