BASScare requires volunteers to assist residents with gardening. Are you friendly and outgoing, have some general garden knowledge and would like to work outdoors assisting the residents to look after their garden?
The benefit of this role is providing a resident with a chance to work on a task outdoors that they enjoy but can no longer carry out themselves, therefore enhancing their quality of life, mental health and assisting them to maintain their fine motor skills.
The benefit for the volunteer is developing skills such as communication, elder care, problem solving, interpersonal skills and gardening.
Tasks and Responsibilities
BASScare requires volunteers to assist residents with gardening. This role is firstly a socialisation role where the volunteer talks to residents and assists them to be as independent as possible in looking after the garden. The role also requires the volunteer to water plants found on the patio, weed garden beds, prune flowers and sometimes plant new plants alongside a resident.
Skills and Experience
General garden knowledge, communication skills and a friendly and outgoing nature are required for this role.
