Volunteer Opportunities

Do you have some spare time on a regular basis? We have a vibrant group of dedicated volunteers and are grateful for their generous assistance but we are always looking for more help.

Our Volunteers are involved in many activities including, delivering Meals on Wheels; providing companionship; accompanying clients on our organised day trips; providing transport; offering friendship; participating in programs that enhance the well being of our clients. We are also very open to you suggesting how you may like to contribute to our programs if you have a specific skill or area of interest to share.

We are in urgent need of volunteers to join our existing volunteers in these roles:

Volunteer Assistant for Group Outings – Maranoa House – Canterbury

Like helping others maintain their independence? Like giving others the chance to socialize and engage in the community? Enjoy going on outings?

BASSCARE is seeking a Volunteer to assist clients with younger onset dementia on a day outing program.  The role involves supporting the clients to confidently and as independently as possible engage in our outings, including public transport.  Training provided.

Day/time: Thursday 9.00am – 3.30pm. Frequency: weekly

Volunteer Fitness Assistants – Canterbury Centre, Marwal Centre and Faversham House

Bass Care is seeking fitness assistants to help chart the progress of clients involved in a fitness program. Working with a qualified fitness instructor you will be working either one on one or in small groups. Would suit a volunteer who has a passion for fitness and healthy living.

Canterbury Centre

Day/time: Tuesday 10:00 – 11:00am. Frequency: Weekly during March 2015 or

Day/time: Wednesday 10:00 – 11:00am. Frequency: Weekly February – July or

Day/time: Thursday 10:00 – 11:00am. Frequency: Weekly February – July.

Marwal Centre

Day/time: Thursdays 9:45-11:30, weekly during June-October 2015

Day/time: Monday 1:15-2:45, weekly, ongoing

Volunteer Kiosk Assistant – Faversham House

Enjoy chatting with senior people? Are you friendly and approachable?

Bass Care is seeking relief volunteers to staff its kiosk some Tuesdays, Thursdays or Saturdays as required. The kiosk gives residents the opportunity to stop for a chat, browse and conveniently purchase personal items. Experience in a retail setting would be useful but not essential.

Day/time: Tuesday or Thursday 12.30-1.30pm or Saturdays 10.30am – 12.00pm

Volunteer Lifestyle Assistants – Arts & Crafts – Faversham House

Bass Care is seeking Lifestyle Volunteers to assist residents at Faversham House with arts and crafts projects. This program is run by the Lifestyle Staff at Faversham House. Residents have a range of abilities and some will require patient one to one support. Would suit someone with creative flair who enjoys motivating others.

Day/time: Tuesday 9:00 – 11:00am, Wednesday 10:00am – 12pm, Wednesday 1:00 – 3:00pm. Frequency: Weekly

Volunteer Day Outing Assistant – Faversham House

Bass Care is urgently seeking volunteer bus assistants to help with our successful bus outing program, which provides leisurely scenic drives for our clients. This is a non-driving role. This role would suit someone who enjoys getting out and about, whilst assisting older people in the community.

Day/time: Friday 12:30 – 3:30pm (monthly) or Monday 12:45 – 3:45pm (fortnightly)

Volunteer Welcome Role – Canterbury Centre

Enjoy meeting older people and making them feel welcome?  Interested in volunteering in a community centre? Do you have 4 hours to spare each week?  

BASS Care is seeking volunteers, who like engaging with others to welcome clients to the Canterbury Centre. The Centre hosts a range of programs and services, and volunteers will assist with community enquiries, join clients for lunch and help with some office tasks. It is hoped that volunteers can commit to a regular session each week. Training provided.

Day/time required: Thursdays, between 10am – 2.00pm. Frequency: weekly but some flexibility possible.

Volunteer Day Outing Program Bus Jockey – Canterbury Centre

Enjoy giving older people the opportunity to go on outings & socialize? Want to provide companionship to our day outing clients? Happy to assist with some tasks to help our program run smoothly?

BASS Care is seeking volunteer bus jockeys to help with our successful day outing program which provides door to door transport for the clients who attend. The role includes: assisting the driver in locating client homes, telephoning clients to confirm pick up time, overseeing clients onto the bus and socializing with the clients during the day.

Day/time required: Fridays, 9am til 12 noon (assist with client pick ups only) or 10am – 4pm (assist with full day program). Frequency: flexible

Volunteer Assistant with basic woodwork skills – Maranoa House – Canterbury

Like helping & working with older people? Are you patient? Do you have basic knowledge of woodwork? 

BASS Care is seeking a volunteer to assist clients attending Maranoa Dementia Day Care with finishing wood work items. Tasks include assisting clients to sand and paint already completed objects. An ability to give instructions simply and patiently essential. Training provided.

Day/time required: Wednesdays 1.30-3.00pm. Frequency: weekly

Volunteer Bus Jockey – Maranoa House – Canterbury

Maranoa House Dementia Day Centre seeks a volunteer to assist our driver transporting clients on a Wednesday and/or Thursday afternoon. Clients may require help on/off the bus and to the doors of their homes.

 Day/time: Wednesday 2.30pm – 4.00pm Frequency: weekly preferred but flexible
